Presidential Authority

with one comment

A July 18, 2007, a Washington Post/AP Poll reports that “more than six in 10 Americans – 62 percent – said Congress should have the final say on when to pull out U.S. forces [from Iraq].”

Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution reads, “The President shall be commander in chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the militia of the several states, when called into the actual service of the United States…”

This strongly suggests either 62 percent of Americans are ignorant of what the U.S. Constitution says or they or they want the Constitution rewritten.

I suspect the former to be truer.

Sheehan Bites the Hand that Fed Her

without comments

I was a lifelong Democrat only because the choices were limited. The Democrats are the party of slavery and were the party that started every war in the 20th century, except the other Bush debacle. The Federal Reserve, permanent federal income taxes, not one but two World Wars, Japanese concentration camps, and not one but two atom bombs dropped on the innocent citizens of Japan—all brought to us via the Democrats.” —Cindy Sheehan

A couple of years ago, you couldn’t walk across a pasture in Crawford, Texas without a stepping on a Democrat waiting in line for their photo-op with Cindy Sheehan. After swooning over and elevating Mother Sheehan to Mother Teresa eminence, someone finally noticed that this poor lady was a few fries short of a Happy Meal at McDonald’s. Too late, it appears. Mother Sheehan is now engaged “in a hotly contested” campaign for Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s seat in Congress.

Candidate Sheehan says she is concerned with many of the same things Speaker Pelosi and the Democratic Party are; “same-sex marriage laws, counter-military recruitment, and the decriminalization of marijuana.”

Sheehan says, “Many of these issues have affected me and my family personally…”

Al-Qaeda in Mesopotamia says New Amsterdam Times

without comments

“The U.S. command said… the highest-ranking Iraqi in the leadership of al-Qaida in Iraq has been arrested, adding that information from him indicates the group’s foreign-based leadership wields considerable influence over the Iraqi chapter,’ the Associated Press reports. That’s al Qaeda in Iraq or, as the New York Times calls it, al Qaeda Which Has Nothing to Do With Iraq in Mesopotamia Which Also Has Nothing to Do With Iraq Even Though It’s Another Name for Iraq Which Has Nothing to Do With al Qaeda, a Homegrown Iraqi Group That Has Nothing to Do With Iraq Even Though It Is Mostly Iraqi, Albeit With Some Foreign Involvement Which Has Nothing to Do With Iraq.” —James Taranto

If the New York Times finds it fitting to refer to Iraq by its former name of Mesopotamia, is itnot just as appropriate then that we start referring to the “Gray Lady” as the New Amsterdam Times?
