Last night I was watching the Chris Matthews Comedy Hour, often mistakenly referred to as Hardball, on MSNBC, which is often mistakenly referred to as a cable news network. Matthews was salivating over “bombshell” guest, Bob Woodard, author of State of Denial, Woodward’s new “blockbuster book” (Matthews’s words – not mine).
Anyone who as watched the Chris Matthews show more than one time cannot help but notice his weird obsession with Vice President Dick Cheney. Last night it also became apparent to Bob Woodward just a few minutes into the interview when after the fifth or twenty-fifth Cheney question (or “Cheeney”, as Matthews calls the VP). This is the transcript:
MATTHEWS: Oh really? Well, let‘s talk about what Cheney—here is a man …
WOODWARD: Are you obsessed with Cheney?
MATTHEWS: No, I am …
Matthews used to obsessed with Karl Rove during the Valerie Plame investigation, nightly promising his viewers that Rove would be indicted any minute now and frog-marched across the White House lawn just like Joe Wilson said. After the startling anouncement by Richard Armitage, right-hand man man to Matthew’s icon, General Colin Powell, that it was he who had leaked Valerie Plame’s name to Bob Novak, Matthews removed Karl Rove’s picture from his dartboard and has not spoken of or about Karl Rove since.
