It is said that Vladimir Lenin called Soviet sympathizers in Western countries “useful idiots” for unwittingly and unknowingly advancing the cause of communism. Cuba’s communist dictator Fidel Castro recently entertained his own group of “useful idiots; or as we are more inclined to call them here in the U.S – Democrat Congressmen.
Six members of the Congressional Black Caucus traveled to Cuba last week to be wined and dined by the fabulous Castro brothers. Brother Raul Castro met with the delegation for four hours. Three of the lucky members got a special invitation to be entertained by Fidel himself in the comfort of his own home.
Rep. Laura Richardson, D-Calif., one of three lawmakers to meet Generalissimo Fidel Castro on Tuesday, said she got the sense that “he really wants President Obama to succeed” in his foreign policy goals. “He sincerely wants an opportunity, I think, in his lifetime to see a change in America.”
Richardson was impressed that Fidel not only her name, but the district she represents. “Castro looked directly into our eyes”, she gushed and he asked, “How can we help President Obama?”
Playing the part of “useful idiot” perfectly, Illinois Democratic Rep. Bobby Rush said he found El Comandante “to be just the opposite of how he’s being portrayed in the media.”
I think what really surprised me, but also endeared to him was his keen sense of humor, his sense of history and his basic human qualities,” a giddy Rush said, adding that at times, the meeting’s participants chatted “like old family members.
“This is the dawning of a new day,” added Rush. “In my household I told Castro he is known as the ultimate survivor.”
Well Congressman, it’s not hard to be the ultimate survivor when your country doesn’t hold elections, anyone who disagrees with you is either shot, hung or sent to Cuba’s equivalent of the Gulag Archipelago; where even a whisper of dissent to your absolute authority results in harassment, beatings and imprisonment.
Unsurprisingly, the Caucus members did not find time to visit any of Fidel’s notorious prisons where since 1959 over 500,000 Cubans have served time for political “offenses.”
