UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, speaking yesterday in Incheon, Korea before the global Environment Forum, which precedes the UN Climate Conference Conference in Copenhagen this December, announced the following apoplectic warning:
We have just four months. Four months to secure the future of our planet.
Excuse me, but didn’t Al Gore say we have “10 years left” to save the planet? Forget, of course, that he’s been saying “just 10 years left” for the past decade. But even Bonnie Prince Charles of merry old England gave us at least 8 years before we succumb to global warming.
Ban Ki-moon was not yet finished. From the Obama playbook of calamitous immediacy, he foretold:
If we fail to act, climate change will intensify droughts, floods and other natural disasters.
Water shortages will affect hundreds of millions of people. Malnutrition will engulf large parts of the developing world. Tensions will worsen. Social unrest – even violence – could follow.
The damage to national economies will be enormous. The human suffering will be incalculable.
Imagine that. Only Four Months Left to Save the Planet!
Damn! There goes Christmas.
