Bombing attempt foiled – Napolitano says “The system worked.”

Gate security In a CNN interview today, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said that the thwarting of the attempt to blow up the Amsterdam-Detroit flight this week demonstrated that “the system worked.”

Compounding this absurdity, Napolitano added, there was “no suggestion that [the bomber] was improperly screened.”

Well, don’t we feel safer now!

If Napolitano’s statement that “the system worked”, she means the same system used by the passengers on Flight 93, September 11, 2001, then she’s right. Just as the terrorists who hijacked Flight 93 were thwarted by the passengers, so too was Amsterdam to Detroit Flight 253 foiled by a quick-thinking passenger who may have saved the lives of others

Only a blithering idiot or someone who would refer to 9/11 as a “man-caused disaster” would proudly announce that a man with 80g of explosive strapped to his thigh that strolled right through airport screening and was only seconds away from blowing up an airline full of Christmas passengers was proof that “the system worked.”
