How many jobs did the trillion dollar so-called, stimulus Recovery Act create? That depends on which Administration official you believe and which television network you watch.
Three different White House advisors appearing on three different Sunday talk shows gave three different estimates as to just how many jobs were created as a result of Barack Obama’s Recovery Act.
Senior White House advisor Valerie Jarrett told David Gregory on Meet The Press, “The Recovery Act saved thousands and thousands of jobs.”
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that the Recovery Act “saved or created 1.5 million jobs.”
Senior White House Advisor David Axelrod on ABC News bumped both Jarrett an Gibbs, adamantly pronouncing that the Recovery Act, “created more than – or saved more than 2 million jobs.”
So the consensus from senior White House officials…supposedly in the know with inside access…ranges from somewhere between thousands and thousands to more than two million. Well, that’s really nailing it down. Close enough for government work, I guess.
But how’s that work for people who actually work for a living? Suppose my company president comes in and asks, “So David, how many widgets did we sell last year?” “Oh, I’d say somewhere between two thousand and two million.”
Why do I have the feeling he’d fire me?
