Obama – Flag Pins Are Substitute for Patriotism

Sen. Barack Obama was asked why he doesn’t wear a flag pin on his lapel any longer as he has done since 9/11.

“The truth is that right after 9/11 I had a pin,” Obama responded. “Shortly after 9/11, particularly because as we’re talking about the Iraq war, that became a substitute for I think true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security.”

“I decided I won’t wear that pin on my chest. Instead, I’m going to try to tell the American people what I believe will make this country great, and hopefully that will be a testament to my patriotism.”

Politicians, especially those running for running for the highest office in the land, never say or do anything not directed towards a special interest group or so platitudinous to be tiresome. Which, of course, brings to my mind two questions.

A.    To what group is Obama appealing to with the removal of the American flag pin?

B.    If he has been wearing the flag pin since 9/11, why take it off now?

By Obama’s reasoning we should encourage real Americans to stop flying the American Flag. By the flag flying at the nations capital that means that our politicians are showing fake patriotism as well.

I’m sorry but saying you are no longer going to wear a pin of the American Flag because it is a false patriotism is the stupidest idea in the world. I had actually considered voting for Obama until this stunt.

Obama’s decision to stop wearing a flag lapel pin will probably appeal to young voter (not all, btw) who are aware that 1) This war is putting their friends in harms way for no clear reason 2) These flag pins are primarily worn by people who think the United States is always right and 3) Wearing these pins is so mainstream and done by so many people that are blatantly racist, homophobic, jingoist, or just dumb (e.g. your average news anchor for any major network).

Don’t know, but I think his decision and description of why he did it will work out for Obama in the end. I for one, can’t stand flag lapel pins, yellow ribbon car magnets, or any of the other “Made in [dictatorship Communist] China” patriotic bling that’s so common these days. The motives of those who sport that crap always ring false to me. Any one else feel this way?

  3. THE SILENCE IS DEAFENING,
OR AS THE PLANET HEATS UP, YOU DON’T HAVE TO!

AP – Al Gore has for a long time been full of hot air. He has a vivid imagination about the world. His mistrust of the seasons seems to stem from an episode of the Twilight Zone, in which the Earth gets too close to the Sun. Al is probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures needed to create a more effective global antiperspirant.

If college roommate Tommy Lee Jones, could save the City of Los Angeles from errant magma (Volcano), and the world entire from an extraterrestrial cockroach (Men In Black), not to be outdone Al Gore deserves a prize for his initiative to combat global wetness. The same trusted formula that kept our leaders dry during the Cold War. Clinton tested: guaranteed to leave no trace.

The committee that awarded Al Gore the Nobel Prize included a university president, a theologian, and a consultant. Larry, Moe & Curly could not be reached for comment. And, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, with whom Gore shares the prize, does not carry out research, nor does it monitor climate or related phenomena. Given the newfound legitimacy for Global Warming, a “private group” out of Monterey, California, vies to seed the North Atlantic with iron oxide to help plankton absorb carbon dioxide (greenhouse gasses); another proposes to sow the atmosphere with sulfur. Strategy: “cleanup the planet and make a buck on the side.”

So, to whom did Al Gore donate the $1.8 million dollar Nobel purse? Who is the Alliance for Climate Protection? Perhaps not coincidentally, Al Gore is the founder and chairman of the § 501(c)(3) alliance. Three guesses who the IPCC are. But why should science be immune from grasping politicians? Aren’t they doing “good” for the collective? Aren’t their distortions justified, because they’re better than? Isn’t this the psychology of the left? After all, when it came to pirating the “Peace Dividend” to create that new cultural paradigm, didn’t the ends justify the means: http://theseedsof9-11.com

While President Clinton was “reinventing higher education,” Vice President Gore was “reinventing government.” During Bill Clinton’s 1996 golf outing at Pebble Beach, Al Gore gave an “environmental group” $2 million dollars to save the bay. Gore’s sizable donation never made the local news. As it turns out, it was the mother of all environmental scams, White House Chief of Staff Leon Panetta’s Monterey Bay Sanctuary. Years later a lone radio station reported, “the group has $2.5 million dollars, and four people in two locations.” Post 9-11, oceangoing cruise ships ply the pristine waters of the Monterey Bay, ferrying tourists to and from Monterey’s eateries … it’s the economy.

I FIND IT AMAZING HOW SENATOR’S OBAMA’S WORDS ARE MISINTERPRETED IN THE MOST NEGATIVE WAY. DAVID, IF YOU WANT TO PASS JUDGMENT THAT IS FAIR, YOU WOULD CONTROL YOUR NEGATIVISM.

SENATOR OBAMA IS RIGHT. WEARING A FLAG IS NO SYMBOL OF A WAR THAT HAS TURNED INTO A BIG LOSER. HIS EARLIER WEARING IT REPRESENTED SYMPATHY FOR OUR SOLDIERS. PHILOSOPHICALLY, IT WAS SUPPORT FOR THEM, NOT FOR THE WAR.

PSYCHOLOGICALLY, I BELIEVE HE WAS CONSOLING HIMSELF. THAT WAS A NATURAL HUMANE ACTION. HE AND HIS WIFE HAVE KIDS AND KNEW A FUTURE PRESIDENT WOULD PROBABLY DRAFT THEM IF THE IRAQ WAR LASTED A 100 YEARS.

IT IS A CHEAP HIT TO MENTION OUR NATIONAL FLAG, LAPEL FLAGS ARE LITTLE AND IT WAS HIS CIVIL RIGHT TO REMOVE IT. ARE YOU SURE YOU ARE LIBERAL?

For a second everything went quiet in the cab, then the driver said, “Look mate, don’t ever do that again. You scared the daylights out of me!”
